Ah, September.  The first month of fall, the first full month of school (for most people), and Johnny Appleseed's birthday.  What does September mean to me?  Well....there is my Birthday, my Granddaddy's birthday, my parent's wedding anniversary, my Grandmama's hip surgery, an interest meeting for a possible work study at the radio station, and the annual Renfaire that I go to.
It will also mean the first interest meeting for my textile arts club, WARPTAG (it stands for Weaving And Related Passe Textile Arts Guild).  I finally got a faculty advisor, name, and application turned in, and we are ready to start building interest around campus and hosting interest meetings!
I have also gotten most if not all of my Halloween decor for my room.  There's a plastic skull, and small tombstone made of concrete, a large foam tombstone, some creepy cloth, a doorknocker (that I'm not going to put on the door because someone would steal it), 2 mini cauldron like salsa bowls that I will use as little plastic cauldrons, a fake stuffed raven, and a few signs.  I will put a picture up when I finally decorate.

I have been really really bad with posting pictures so I will try to get better at that, mean while I have taken a few and I will figure out how to upload them from my camera....hmm I think I need to get a card reader.

If there is anything y'all want me to write about, you know what to do.

A College Post

I have to add a little addendum to my previous post:
I was switched into another dorm and thus have another roommate.  It is the dorm of my choice and my roommate is really nice.

I also have a question for all you gothy types out there... what are some alternatives to wearing skirts for the romantic goth/ neo-victorian minded person?  I have a few skirts but I don't usually wear them so I'm still getting used to them, but in the mean time I want to find some pants to wear.  I was thinking knickers and such but a girl can only wear so many black pants before it starts to look like you're wearing the same pants over and over.  I do eventually hope that I can get my confidence up to wearing cooler skirts and maybe bloomers but until then....

On another topic, I think I'm going to start a textile arts club at my college.  It would help people learn to sew, knit, crochet, weave, spin, and so much more.  I especially want to teach card weaving.  A great book to learn how to do it is Candace Crockett's book on card weaving.

It not only gives you a history of the art but it also teaches you how to make cards, different ways you can keep the tension, and it gives a lot of patterns.  I really want to try the pattern that's shown on the cover of the book...it looks  so cool!  I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn to do card weaving.

Again if there's anything you want to know or want me to post just leave a comment.

New Stuff

On a quick note, I apologize for not posting in a while.  I have been very busy with college stuff.  (I have a whole corner of my room taken up with stuff)

So, as the title says, this is a post about new stuff.
Item No. 1: A kitten!  My sister and her friend found a little kitten in the parking lot of a school and we brought her home.  She looks to be about 2 months old but the vet said that she is actually about 6 months.
Item No. 2: Decent make-up.  I adore the Bare Minerals brand even though it is crazy expensive.  It turns out that I need the fair foundation (yay!) and I actually have dark circles.  My mother and I both got the creme cover up stuff and I got the foundation that I need so I think I may be set with that for a bit.
Item No. 3: A laptop: My first laptop that's just mine and not a shared one (even though there are plenty in the house).
Item No. 4: Sims 3 Supernatural: Ok, so I don't actually have this yet, but I will when the 4th of September rolls around.  I squealed when I saw the trailer for this expansion pack.  I am so excited.
Item No. 5: My dorm and roommate:  I adore my roommate and, even though it isn't my first pick, I think i'll like my dorm.

Now those are 5 of my new things, feel free to comment some of your new things that you are happy for.

Wardrobe Countdown, Designing, A Question for You

I've been trying to redo my wardrobe before I head off to college.  I want it to have a Neo-Victorian/goth feel to it.  I have been looking on YouTube for inspiration and make-up ideas and I have found many but I have a hard time actually shopping for them.  Normally I hate shopping (if you have ever shopped with my mom you'd know why) but I have recently started to enjoy it more since I have my license and can go out on my own.  I have some ideas on what I want in my wardrobe but I can't usually find them when I go out.  But I don't want to seem like I'm whining, so a change of topic is needed.

I have been interested in the Tudor era for about as long as I can remember.  I adore their clothing especially, so I think that I may start (attempting) to design a Neo-Tudor style of clothing.  I was thinking of starting the designs now but actually sewing them when I learn how to work a sewing machine better.  Hmm....how to go about that...  Now I can't draw most things particularly well but I can draw dresses.  Well, it would give me something to do when I'm bored and can't find anything else to do...maybe my roommate will be a fashion design major or something and could help me out!

Now I have a question for y'all (yes I'm from the south, hence the y'all).  What do y'all want to hear about in this blog?  Any ideas are appreciated because I want to hear what you want to know.  All vulgar ideas will be disregarded and you will be reported.  I'm sure y'all have great ideas and I can't wait to hear (see) them.

Weaving

So...here are some examples of looms I have.  They aren't the exact ones of course but they look like the ones I have.

An Inkle Loom
Mine looks just like this only it was made by my grandfather.

A card weaving loom
Mine is a little shorter, it's wider, and it's not as long.

A frame loom
Mine looks like this only darker.

A rigid heddle loom
Mine is a 32" Kromski Harp

A triangle loom
Mine isn't nearly as finished as this piece of work is...and mine was made by my grandfather.

A bead loom
I got this one from my mom.

So that's a total of 6 looms, and there may be more somewhere in my closet.  Wow, I'm a geek...
The only one I plan on taking to college is my inkle loom because it can be used for the most things...inkle weaving, card weaving, etc.

Well, I hope this helped you get a glimpse of my life (and looms) and maybe just maybe made you want to try weaving.

About me and this Blog...or something like that

I am an almost college student (I start this fall), and I love Victorian, Elizabethan, Tudor, and medieval clothing.  I started researching neo-victorian clothing at the beginning of my senior year and I felt that it was right for me.  The only thing was that I was scared to start dressing like that because the kids at my school would wonder why I suddenly started dressing "funny."  I've gone to school with these kids since 6th grade, some even since 2nd, and I'm pretty sure that they would think I've gone nuts or something.  (I'm not someone who normally cares what people think, but I didn't want to start getting bullied again)  Anyways, I decided that since college is a new start why not give in to my desire to dress the way I want.

This blog is not just going to be about me and my changing style, it's also going to be about my life in terms of being an uber history geek.  It will be about crafts I do, societies I join, how I'm getting on in college, stuff like that.  I hope that instead of me looking all self absorbed, which I am definitely not, it will help you want to learn to do stuff too.  For instance, if I blog about my weaving, I am hoping that you may find weaving interesting and then want to try it too, because it's good for people to remember how to do crafts that have become obsolete because of machines, it helps us connect with our heritage.  Now, I'm not the best at blogging so please bear with me, because (hopefully) it will get better over time.

Lots of Love,
Neesie
